SF/East Bay Maker Faire Coming on October 24th

Bay Area Geek Dads and Geek Moms, mark your calendars for October 24th! The Mini-Maker Faire is coming to Oakland, and they have a line-up you can?t miss, especially if you have mini-Makers under your roof. Just a sample of the over 100 exhibits, activities, rides, craft booths, and bands that await you and your kids:

  • Author Michael Chabon is teaming up with Nick Dragotta of HowToons to teach a workshop on making comics
  • Once you?ve designed your own super-hero, head over the to Swap-O-Rama to stitch up a costume for your creation, just in time for Halloween
  • Scream with delight on the home-made, pedal-powered amusement park rides of Cyclecide
  • Maker Faire founder Dale Dougherty will be on hand to talk about the Maker movement and how to encourage exploration and discovery in your kids, and to teach a workshop on pressing your own apple cider
  • Alpha geek Tim O?Reilly reveals the secrets of his famous home-made jam, featured in the hit book Cooking for Geeks
  • Help build the Bay Area?s biggest marble run, courtesy of the East Bay School for Boys
  • Build and launch a rocket with the 4th graders at Park Day School
  • Getting an early start on a home-made holiday season with dozens of craft and DIY kit booths
  • Become an urban homesteader with exhibits on chicken-keeping, beekeeping, bread-making, bench-carving, and more
  • Rock out with The Shes, the Devilettes, and other great Bay Area bands playing on a pedal-powered stage

And of course, GeekDad?s own Ken Denmead will be there with his radio-controlled Lego demolition derby (and copies of the book)!
